(German & English) Eindrücke von Oglala Commemoration Day Events aus den USA und Europa sowie von europäischen Aktionen nach Ablehnung der Haftentlassung Peltiers. Jedes Jahr findet am 26.6. in der Pine Ridge Reservation der Oglala Commemoration Day, seit 2013 auch Leonard Peltier Day, statt. Erinnert wird an diesem Tag an die tödliche Eskalation der Gewalt in der Reservation, für die vor allem die damalige Stammesregierung und deren Terrorgruppe GOONS verantwortlich war. Am 26.6.1975 fuhren zwei FBI-Beamte in ein Schutzcamp des American Indian Movement, worauf es zu einem Schusswechsel kam. Viele der Campbewohner und -besucher hielten dies für einen Überfall. Ein junger AIM – Aktivist und die FBI-Beamten wurden hierbei getötet. Dies ist der Hintergrund der bis heute anhaltenden Inhaftierung Leonard Peltiers, der nun am 12.9.2024 achtzig Jahre alt wird und davon fast 49 Jahre inhaftiert ist. Diese anhaltende Inhaftierung verstößt aus Sicht vieler Gruppen gegen das Straf-, Bürger und Menschenrecht. Dennoch wurden 2024 erneut zwei Anträge auf Haftentlassung abgelehnt: die Haftentlassung auf Bewährung durch die US Parole Commission und eine Haftentlassung aus humanitären Gründen durch das Federal Bureau of Prisons. Diese Ablehnungen sind vor allem auf die massiven Interventionen des FBI zurückzuführen, wobei das FBI nach fast 50 Jahren weiterhin die gleichen Unwahrheiten als Begründung heranführt die einst zur Verurteilung führten. Nach Ablehnung der Haftentlassung gingen in Deutschland und vor allem auch in Italien die Solidaritäts-Aktionen für den indigenen politischen Gefangenen Leonard Peltier unvermindert weiter. Impressions of Oglala Commemoration Day events from the USA and Europe and of European actions following the rejection of Peltier’s release. Oglala Commemoration Day, and since 2013 Leonard Peltier Day, takes place every year on 26 June on the Pine Ridge Reservation. This day commemorates the deadly escalation of violence on the reservation, for which the then tribal government and its terrorist group GOONS were primarily responsible. On 26 June 1975, two FBI officers drove into a protection camp of the American Indian Movement, which led to an exchange of gunfire. Many of the camp residents and visitors thought this was an ambush. A young AIM activist and the FBI officers were killed. This is the background to the ongoing imprisonment of Leonard Peltier, who will now be eighty years old on 12 September 2024 and has been imprisoned for almost 49 years. In the view of many groups, this ongoing imprisonment violates criminal, civil and human rights. Nevertheless, two applications for release were again rejected in 2024: release on parole by the US Parole Commission and release on humanitarian grounds by the Federal Bureau of Prisons. These denials are mainly due to the massive interventions of the FBI, which continues to use the same falsehoods as justification after almost 50 years, that they used for charging Peltier as guilty. After the refusal of release, the solidarity campaigns for the indigenous political prisoner Leonard Peltier continued unabated in Germany and above all in Italy. This presentation shows some impressions in just under 7 minutes.
